Assistant phase · Levels 0–3 · Driven momentum

The Apprentice

Learning the ropes fast, and hungry for the next knot.

You’re curious, you experiment, and you invest your own time in learning AI. Your practice hasn’t caught up with your drive yet: most of what you do still happens in a chat window. You’re the person most ready to climb.

“Wait, it can do that too?”

Who they are

Apprentices try every new feature, follow the news and tell colleagues what they found. The energy is real. What’s usually missing is method: a way to turn scattered experiments into routines that save time every day.

This is the best place to start a climb. With the right moves (prompts with context, projects that know your work, AI inside your tools) Apprentices often jump two or three levels in a few weeks.

How it looks at work

Lots of chats, several tools, plenty of tabs. Some brilliant results, but most of the work still flows through copy and paste.

You’re probably an Apprentice if you…

  • ◆…have tried three new AI tools this month
  • ◆…send colleagues links to things AI can do now
  • ◆…have more open chats than finished routines
  • ◆…learn a new trick most weeks, and forget last week’s

Strengths

  • ◆Drive: you pull, nobody has to push
  • ◆A fast learner who tries things early
  • ◆Enthusiasm that spreads to colleagues
  • ◆Open to changing how you work

Blind spots

  • ◇Many experiments, few routines
  • ◇Hopping between tools instead of going deep on one
  • ◇Trying things without checking the output
  • ◇Energy that fades without visible results
Where the Apprentice sits on the curve

Levels 0–3 · Assistant

AI answers when you ask. You do the work.

0×1

No AI

Everything by hand: searching, writing, copying, checking.

1×1.6

Copy and paste

A basic chat window. Paste a question in, copy the answer out. Every chat starts from zero.

2×2.5

Better prompts

Context, role, examples and files go into the prompt. Prompts that work get saved and reused.

3×4

Personal assistant

Projects with company knowledge and standing instructions. AI knows the context before you ask.

One move for this week

Turn one experiment into a routine

Your drive is the rare part; method is the missing one. One routine that runs every week beats ten experiments.

  • →Pick the experiment that saved you the most time
  • →Write it down as a routine: when it runs, what goes in, what good looks like
  • →Run it every week for a month, checking the output each time
